About Doctor

He is a medical graduate of the University of Madras, India completed the MBBS course from the Madras Medical College in Chennai in 1983 and went on to complete the 2 year diploma course in Ophthalmology conducted by the same institution at the Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Egmore ,Chennai.

In 1988 started training in the United Kingdom in various eye departments of the National Health Services. Working in the Coventry and Warwickshire hospital for the Paybody Eye Unit and Dorset Royal Eye Infirmary, Dorchester acquired the finer skills of ophthalmic surgery. In 1991passed the 3 part examination of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London and was awarded the fellowship of the institution.

Post fellowship experience :


Visited the Texas Medical Centre, Houston and the Emory Eye unit in Atlanta for training in the management of complex eye problems including intra ocular tumours.

High volume Cataract surgeon in the UK ,performed close to 10,000 cataract operations and mastered the art of performing cataract surgery by Phaco emulsification under topical anaesthesia (eye drops only and no injection for local anaesthesia) . Performed squint and other Paediatric surgery for the Heart of England NHS foundation trust, Birmingham.

In 2002 , appointed at a senior level in the Heart of England NHS Foundation trust ,worked at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital (all University teaching hospitals) and managed complex pediatric eye conditions including squints , pediatric eye disease associated with systemic problems , screening neonates for Retinopathy of Prematurity and other congenital eye problems . Figured as one of the leading operating surgeons for the group of hospitals under this NHS trust which itself is one of the largest in the country. Committed to junior training and education and was appointed as the educational coordinator for the Heart of England Ophthalmic group and appointment as a Senior Clinical Examiner for the University of Birmingham. .

Approved trainer for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists , London to assess junior ophthalmologist work place based assessments and conduct ARCP (Annual Review of Competence Progression ).

Born and brought up in Chennai , always wanted to serve the needs of our people . In January 2011, returned to India and joined the Apollo Group of Hospitals in Chennai as Senior Consultant in Ophthalmology. Established the Pediatric Eye Services at the Apollo Children’s Hospital (off Graeme’s Road ) in Chennai and the Ophthalmic services at the Apollo Day surgery in Alwarpet , Chennai and commenced work at the Apollo Main Hospital, Greames Road, Chennai .
